We are looking to hire a skilled carpenter to add to our established team of highly skilled craftsmen. We have been remodeling homes in South Hampton Roads (Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk) since 1985, and we have built a trusted team of long-time employees who are customer service driven and have a strong work ethic. Many of our employees have been with us for at least 10 years, and several more have been with us for over 20 years. We train our employees in-house and prefer to promote from within. Your job will entail working in diverse settings to build home additions and remodel kitchens and bathrooms. Working with some supervision while following all health and safety standards is essential. References required. Salary based on experience.
- Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to fully grasp requirements
- Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed
- Be part of a team that builds home additions and remodel kitchens and bathrooms
- Build window frames, doors, staircases and frame buildings by using raw materials or pre-constructed items
- Inspect places and conduct repairs or maintenance
- Proven experience as carpenter (minimum five years experience preferred)
- Hands-on experience in working with carpentry materials
- Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction, tools and equipment building code
- Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers etc.)
- Ability to read technical documents and drawings
- Attention to detail and high quality work
- Capable of accomplishing work in a timely manner while maintaining quality and safety
- Willingness to follow safety guidelines at all times
- Good understanding of basic math
- Good communication skills
- Good physical condition and endurance; able to occasionally lift heavy loads (50+ pounds)
